Inmate Marriages:
You must first obtain an Affidavit of Inability to Appear and an Application for Marriage License from the County of Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's Office in Norwalk. The Affidavit of Inability to Appear form must be notarized and all forms must be completely filled out.
A valid photo ID for the inmate is required by the Los Angeles County Recorder in order to obtain a marriage license. The Application for the Marriage License must be signed by you and the inmate. This can be done at the time the Inability to Appear form is notarized.
A wedding officiant should be contacted to perform the actual marriage ceremony. The notary who notarizes the Inability to Appear form cannot perform the ceremony. If you do not know of a wedding officiant, call us at 661.993.4245 and we can refer you to one. The notarization, obtaining the marriage license and the marriage ceremony can usually be completed within a week. For more information, please call 661.993.4245 **Fees for notarizations at jails, courts, prisons and detention centers depend upon the requirements of each job and the time required. The minimum fee for a document such as a Power of Attorney or an Affidavit of Inability to Appear for a Marriage License at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, California is $100 for the first hour (most jobs completed within an hour). Any time over an hour is billed at $25 every 30 minutes. NOTE: Payment must be made prior to, or on the day of, the appointment and must be in the form of cash.
